Leggings fail

When winter rolls around again, one can only hope that the leggings trend of the last couple of years does not continue. Leggings are great when accompanying a shirt that is slightly too long to be classified as a dress, or as an accessory under a dress when the temperature drops. The problem starts when women wear leggings instead of a pair of pants. News flash: they’re not pants. As with all things, fashion trends are good in moderation. Wearing tight clothing is fine as long as it is done tastefully.

It would be scandalous if someone were to walk through the city wearing nothing but a shirt. So why is it not as equally horrifying when someone wears  a piece of fabric that hugs to every inch of them and leaves nothing to the imagination. A little mystery is not at all a bad thing.

So before winter hits again here are some hot tips for how to wear leggings appropriately:

  • wear a dress or long shirt over top of leggings, a good length is to about mid-thigh
  • wear something slightly baggier on top, that way you have a good balance between tight and loose
  • when wearing patterned tights try teaming them with a plainer top half, don’t overwhelm yourself with patterns everywhere.

And whatever you do… please… for everyone’s sake… no jeggings:

Just remember leggings are a great addition to an outfit, but they are not necessarily a great outfit on their own.
